The Reagan-appointee’s decision was a temporary setback for the Illinois State Rifle and Pistol Association-backed challenge to the city of Highland Park’s “assault weapon” ban, albeit one that is sure to be appealed.

Bloomberg Money Opposing Maine Constitutional Carry Bill :: 05/06/2015

Maine may be the most likely state to pass constitutional carry next.  The state is one of those which has has preserved open carry without government permission, though that can be said of over 60% of the states. In addition, The Pine Tree State has a quirky ‘shall issue’ permitting system that gives a little arbitrary power, in the form of a “good moral character” requirement, to local police or elected officials, if there is no police chief.  The system was created in 1985, one of the earliest “shall issue” laws . . .

Correcting the record on David Hemenway's claim that academics support gun control :: 05/06/2015

How the Law Protects and Serves in Illinois :: 05/05/2015

The Waukegan, Illinois Police Department received a telephone call on February, 2, 2015. The female caller, later identified as “Roselynn” stated that her boyfriend, former US Army tanker veteran, Alfred DeVost, had threatened to commit suicide. The Waukegan PD sprang into action and immediately showed up at veteran DeVost’s apartment where he allowed them to enter. He denied stating anything concerning his possible suicide and that’s when Officer Pantoja decided to try tact, asking DeVost to voluntarily submit to a mental evaluation, which he agreed to do. You see where this is headed, right? . . .

A bill has now been proposed in the Oregon legislature that is similar to the “universal background checks” law passed in Washington State late last year.
