9th Circuit Panel Says Pandemic-Inspired Shutdowns of Gun Stores Were Unconstitutional :: 01/22/2022

For 48 days in the spring of 2020, Ventura County, California, effectively prohibited the purchase of firearms or ammunition. It also barred people who already owned firearms from visiting gun ranges to hone their skills and prevented them from taking the steps necessary to obtain carry permits, which are legally required in California to exercise the right to bear arms outside the home. The county did all of this in the name of controlling COVID-19, although it simultaneously allowed many other activities that posed similar or greater risks of virus transmission.

No, The SCOTUS Ruling On Abortion Doesn't Affect California Gun Laws :: 12/14/2021

You would never know it from the reaction of President Joe Biden and Gov. Gavin Newsom, but the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision on Friday about the Texas abortion case didn’t overturn Roe v. Wade. It dealt with arcane legal precedent over who can sue and be sued – what is called “standing” – and the constitutionality of Texas’ law is far from settled. On Saturday, hopefully because Newsom hadn’t yet read or understood the decision, he announced he would now use the ruling to help Californians enforce gun control laws.

Gunmakers Ask Judge To Toss $10B Lawsuit Filed By Mexican Government :: 11/23/2021

Earlier this year, the government of Mexico filed a $10-billion lawsuit against several (but not all) of the major gun manufacturers in the United States, accusing them of intentionally arming drug cartels south of the border and turning a blind eye to the widespread violence inflicted by the cartels and their illicitly-obtained firearms. The Mexican government has received an assist in the form of legal assistance from American gun control supporters, who view the lawsuit as an avenue to bankrupt some of the biggest names in the firearms industry (or at least force them to pay out big money in their defense).
