DRGO: A 1328 Law for the 21st Century? :: 10/03/2021
Much is made of the 1328 Statute of Northampton to minimize or even to deny the right to bear arms. Northampton seems to be the core of the 9th Circuit’s opinion in Young v Hawaii. Northampton is sited by the State of New York in NYSR&PA v Bruen. The latest I’ve seen is a short essay by Jonah Skolnic last week at the Duke Center for Firearms Law’s blog. But I am unconvinced that an English royal decree issued nearly 700 years ago should so influence our contemporary interpretation of the Second Amendment.
Inspector General Says Illinois State Police Violating State FOID Law :: 10/03/2021
Since the start of the COVID pandemic, wait times for Illinois residents who want to become legal gun owners have stretched out for six months or more. That’s because Illinois requires all legal gun owners to possess a Firearms Owner ID card, but the Illinois State Police aren’t processing applications within the 30-day window required under state law. So far the agency’s been able to get away with it by claiming that it’s working on the problems, which were caused by circumstances outside of its control, but a new report by the state’s Inspector General reveals the problems predate the pandemic.
Pennsylvania: The unbreakable will of a Cumberland County town :: 10/03/2021
LOWER ALLEN TOWNSHIP, Pennsylvania — Sometimes, a community’s relationship with its culture and its people is so strong it can withstand anything that tries to break it apart. Such durability is a testimony to the sense of what Americans have within their communities.
Stanford's Robert Weisberg on FBI Report of Spike in Homicides :: 10/03/2021
New figures released this week by the F.B.I., indicates that the annual increase in homicides in 2020 was substantial—and the largest since national record-keeping began. Here, Stanford Law Professor Robert Weisberg, who co-directs the Stanford Criminal Justice Center, discusses the implications of the rise and possible causes for it.
A Painful History Lesson on the NRA & Gun Control - LISTEN Now! :: 10/02/2021
New Jersey – -(AmmoLand.com)- I have been watching the news and started thinking about one of the stories getting attention, the removal of the Robert E. Lee statue in Virginia.
DRGO - The Left on Rights :: 10/02/2021
Recently, there have been some interesting articles about our rights. A bit legalistic but still interesting thoughts.
Gutowski Destroyed Washington Post Gun Control Editorial :: 10/02/2021
There are certain publications one really doesn’t expect to remain unbiased on the subject of gun control. By that I mean pretty much none of the major ones are capable of keeping their biases in check, though most still pretend they do. Which is why it’s funny how their editorials almost universally take an anti-Second Amendment slant but we should trust that they’re unbiased.
Why Nazism Was Socialism and Why Socialism Is Totalitarian :: 10/02/2021
Why Nazism Was Socialism and Why Socialism Is Totalitarian. My purpose today is to make just two main points: (1) To show why Nazi Germany was a socialist state, not a capitalist one. And (2) to show why socialism, understood as an economic system based on government ownership of the means of production, positively requires a totalitarian dictatorship.
Durbin Targets Gun Shops With New Legislation :: 10/01/2021
Senate Minority Leader Dick Durbin unveiled his latest gun control proposal on this week, and if approved the legislation could end up putting many smaller gun stores out of business. Durbin, along with Rep. Brad Schneider, an Illinois Democrat whose district covers some of the Chicago suburbs, say their SECURE (Safety Enhancements for Communities Using Reasonable and Effective) Firearms Storage Act is designed to make it harder for thieves to target gun stores, but one Illinois lobbyist says the gun store owners themselves would be the ones who’d feel the impact of the legislation.
Forget COVID and Masks: Now the CDC Is Getting Involved with Your Guns :: 10/01/2021
The politicization of federal government agencies began in earnest with the Obama-Biden Administration and has picked up steam in the Biden-Harris Administration.
Interest In Gun Training Soars After Constitutional Carry Takes Effect :: 10/01/2021
In the weeks before Texas’ new Constitutional Carry law went into effect, one of the common fears expressed by gun control activists and some law enforcement agencies was that once a license to carry was no longer required, there’d be millions of untrained gun owners wandering city streets. Most of the gun owners I know scoffed at the idea, for the simple reason that most people aren’t going to carry a deadly weapon if they don’t feel comfortable or confident with it.
Salon: Corruption Stopped Gun Control :: 10/01/2021
Gun control is something the anti-Second Amendment establishment has been pushing for years now. They haven’t really gotten the traction they wanted, and they’re still more than a little bitter about it. Especially since they were convinced they could run roughshod over the rest of America after the last election, only they can’t.
FBI Report Shows Armed Citizens Killed More Criminals Than Police :: 09/30/2021
A great find from the folks at the Second Amendment Foundation, who note that the latest Uniform Crime Report from the Federal Bureau of Investigation shows that there were more defensive gun uses involving armed citizens than police officers in 2020.
New California Law Shows Why Gun Registration Must Be Opposed :: 09/30/2021
The bad news about California’s AB 173 keeps coming. First the was the introduction of the bill itself, which allows for the release of all kinds of information about gun owners, including their personal identities, to academics investigating “gun violence.” Then the bill passed out of the legislature and landed on Gavin Newsom’s desk. Shortly thereafter, Newsom put pen to paper and signed the bill into law, and since it’s a budget bill, it takes effect immediately.
New Data Shows Crime Rose During Riots, Anti-Law Enforcement Pushes :: 09/30/2021
Recent FBI crime data shows that 2020 saw more than a 5% increase in violent crime from the year prior. Perhaps most troubling among the statistics is that homicides rose nearly 30% last year.
Note To Dems: Be Careful With Filibuster :: 09/30/2021
The filibuster is one of those things that’s been part of the legislative process for a while. There are two kinds, really. One is where a speaker just takes the floor to speak and just doesn’t stop for hours and hours. Until they yield the floor, they have it and can keep on going indefinitely as long as their personal stamina holds out.
Teen Charged With Murder Got Probation For Stolen Gun In School :: 09/30/2021
With kids back in classrooms all over the country, the issue of guns in schools is once again back in the news. In Memphis on Thursday a student at a K-8 school shot another student, and there’ve been a number of incidents reported over the past couple of weeks regarding students who’ve been discovered with firearms on school property.
2A Supporters Fund Public Schools Too. It's Time Schools Reflect That :: 09/29/2021
Public schools are a cultural flashpoint in the United States. As with anything paid for with tax dollars, there’s always a fight over how that money is used, and there are few instances in which everyone involved comes out fully satisfied. More often than not, getting the government involved in something only leaves people angry and bitter, and that’s especially true when it comes to their children’s education.
After Chipman Defeat, Gun Control Lobby Turns To CDC For Help :: 09/29/2021
The gun control lobby’s golden boy won’t be taking the reins at the ATF, but that doesn’t mean that the activists who were pushing David Chipman’s nomination have given up on the idea of federal agencies pushing for new restrictions on the right to keep and bear arms. And while I’m sure that activists at Everytown, Moms Demand, Action, Giffords, Brady, and other anti-gun groups still have big plans for using the regulatory power of the ATF to go after gun makers and gun owners, the Centers for Disease Control is emerging as another platform for the gun control lobby to advance its agenda.
David Chipman Back At Work For Gun Control Lobby :: 09/29/2021
After Joe Biden pulled David Chipman’s nomination as permanent director of the ATF in the face of insurmountable opposition in the Senate, the White House hinted that it would soon find a place for the gun control lobbyist in a non-confirmable position within the Biden administration. So far that hasn’t come to pass, and in the meantime Chipman is still collecting a paycheck from the gun control group Giffords, where he’s been employed for the past several years.
