Gift giving season and gun safety :: 12/18/2021
It’s that holiday season time of year again! For some sects, the holidays have already come and gone, for other’s they’ve yet to arrive. Either way, we’re looking at a time of the year when gift giving is happening, and with that comes some liabilities for us gun owners. I talked about some gift ideas the other week to help prime the thinking process on what to get those special shootists in your life. Once you’ve procured whatever items you may have bought, I’m going to assume you’ve got to hide it somewhere in the house. The gift giving season brings two things that can be rather hazardous; 1 – Prying eyes looking for presents and 2 – Company.

U.S.A. –-(AmmoLand.com)- Gun turn-in events, labeled with the Orwellian term “buyback” are making a small comeback in the United States. Most of them are occurring in states where private sales are not allowed by law. They are not occurring in states which require the valuable property to be sold for the public’s benefit.

Beware The "Simple Solutions" To Violent Crime :: 12/17/2021
The most overused phrase in the gun control movement is “common sense” (as in “we just need a few common sense gun safety measures like banning tens of millions of guns and hundreds of millions of ammunition magazines”). Not far behind, though, is the use of the word “simple”; as in “we can end gun violence if we just take these simple steps to prohibit people from carrying firearms in self-defense.”

Rutgers 'Research' Says 2020 First-Time Gun Buyers Are More Impulsive Than Longtime Owners :: 12/17/2021
Antigun think tanks and politicians push narratives that private citizens don’t “need” firearms for self-defense…so they shouldn’t have them. That narrative has fallen apart over the past two years of rampant rioting and civil unrest as the same groups called for the defunding of police.
Seventeen Gun Companies Leaving For Friendlier States :: 12/17/2021
Imagine you had a company that built a particular product. What you make and sell is perfectly legal, but it’s not politically popular in many places. Now imagine that your home state, the state your company had been in for decades and in which you pay taxes and employ people who also pay taxes, decided that you could no longer sell your products to people in your state.

“I’ve always been anti-gun,” said Debbie Mizrahie of Beverly Hills. “But I am right now in the process of getting myself shooting lessons because I now understand that there may be a need for me to know how to defend myself and my family. We’re living in fear.”
Ohio Pushes To Become Next Constitutional Carry State :: 12/16/2021
It’s not likely to happen before the end of the year, but the chances of Constitutional Carry taking effect in Ohio are much stronger today than they were just a few days ago. On Wednesday the state Senate in Columbus approved a bill removing the requirement that legal gun owners obtain a government-mandated permission slip before carrying a concealed firearm (Ohio already allows for the open carrying of a firearm without the need for a permit), sending the bill over to the state House for approval.
Poll: Americans Increasing Concerned Over Violent Crime :: 12/16/2021
One of the topics that has dominated headlines all across the nation over the last two years is violent crime. From the moment the George Floyd riots kicked off, violent crime began to spike all across the nation. Despite months of people basically being locked in our homes, we still managed to reach a homicide level the 90s would have appreciated.
California Sheriff Indicted In Concealed Carry Bribery Scandal :: 12/15/2021
The investigation into Santa Clara County Sheriff Laurie Smith’s office has been underway for well over a year, and has already led to criminal charges being filed against two of her top deputies, but now a grand jury has indicted the sheriff herself for her alleged involvement in a pay-to-play bribery scheme involving the issuance of rarely-granted concealed carry permits in exchange for cash and gifts.
Letitia James Wants NY To Craft Law Similar To CA Proposal :: 12/15/2021
New York Attorney General Letitia James has no affection for the Second Amendment. To her, it’s an obstacle, something to try and get around so she and people like her can pass all the gun control in the world. She views the NRA the same way, which is why she’s trying to destroy that organization.
The Law Is on Our Side: Using Gun Laws and Court Decisions to Our Advantage :: 12/15/2021
As gun-rights advocates, we must seize and maintain the moral and intellectual high ground. We already understand the tactical and practical costs of the spectrum of gun-control proposals and the equipment that gun-controllers seek to regulate. But we must also understand the law. The good news is that the law favors us.
Pro-Gun Groups Should Be Recruiting Candidates. Too :: 12/14/2021
One of the best ways to defend the Second Amendment is to elect pro-gun candidates to office. That’s easier said than done, though, because some places are outright hostile to gun rights. They believe that our rights are irrelevant and that restricting them will lead to peace and prosperity.
Secret Lists That Bar Gun Ownership A Big Problem :: 12/14/2021
There are a handful of people who are legally forbidden to own a firearm. These include convicted felons, domestic abusers, and those the courts have determined are mentally unfit for firearm ownership. The names of those are essentially kept on a list, one you can’t really look to see if you’re on. That makes it a secret list, one you can only find out you’re on by trying to buy a gun and being denied.
Sheriff Worried Constitutional Carry Will Lead To Less Cash For His Office :: 12/14/2021
To me, this is far more of an argument in favor of getting rid of all government-imposed fees on the exercise of a constitutionally protected right, but Mobile County Sheriff Sam Cochran apparently believes that funding his office off the hard-earned money of gun owners who want to lawfully carry a firearm for self-defense is hunky dory. In fact, Cochran sounds far more concerned about losing concealed carry application fee money than he does about any of his constituents being priced out of a right.

Stop Blaming Guns For Surge In Violence :: 12/13/2021
Over the last year or so, we’ve seen a dramatic increase in violent crime, particularly homicides. Yes, most of these have also involved guns. I won’t pretend facts don’t exist, after all.
"You've Reached 911, Please Hold..." :: 12/13/2021
U.S.A. -(AmmoLand.com)- A standard talking point of gun prohibitionists is that in these modern times, ordinary people don’t need their own firearms because the police will protect them from criminals. Last year, no less than David Chipman, President Biden’s failed nominee to lead the ATF– employed then as a senior policy advisor for the Giffords anti-gun group – mocked first-time gun owners as delusional because the “zombies” weren’t about to attack.
