Washington Self-Defense: Homeowner in Poulsbo shoots man suspected of causing crashes :: 08/05/2020

POULSBO – The Kitsap Sun reports a homeowner outside Poulsbo shot and killed a man who had allegedly tried to enter the house after causing a car wreck nearby on Sunday.

The incident started at about 4:30 p.m. on Viking Way, where 38-year-old Eric William Rose was believed to have been driving a 2008 Jeep. Witnesses said he was traveling at a high rate of speed when he rear-ended a pickup.

Rose then continued driving, but crossed into the oncoming lane and had a nearly head-on collision with another vehicle.

There were no serious injuries reported from the crash, but Rose reportedly ran from the scene to a nearby property where he attempted to enter the house. Deputies say a confrontation ensued between the driver and the homeowner that ended when the homeowner fired several shots from a handgun at Rose, who was later declared dead at the scene.

The homeowner was not arrested. He and his wife were cooperative with investigators and gave a statement Monday.
