Virginia Governor Ralph Northam loves him some gun control. I’m not sure he’s that committed to the idea of gun control or if he just loves it because it allowed him to skate past that whole blackface scandal earlier this year. Regardless of where he was, though, he’s definitely a fan now.
Throughout his state, a lot of people are making a stand of defiance. They’ve vowed not to comply with unconstitutional gun control measures.
There’s been some doubt as to whether Northam was listening. Well, it seems that he is.
As if Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam’s wholesale attack on law-abiding gun owners wasn’t enough, the disgraced public official and his Michael Bloomberg-bought allies in the General Assembly now want the state’s hard-working taxpayers to foot the bill for their unconstitutional schemes. The budget bill (HB30) includes an appropriation of a quarter million dollars to carry out a host of gun control measures that Northam and his anti-gun allies hope to enact.
The $250,000 is appropriated to the Corrections Special Reserve Fund in order to provide for the “increase in the operating cost of adult correctional facilities resulting from the enactment” of Northam’s gun control measures. Among the enumerated laws that this allocation is meant to fund is a ban on commonly-owned semi-automatic firearms, the criminalization of private firearms transfers, and gun confiscation orders issued without due process.
Aside from the insult of forcing law-abiding Virginia taxpayers to pay for the diminution of their rights, the gun control allocation is a severe waste of resources. Northam’s Bloomberg-backed gun control measures will not make Virginia safer.
No, it won’t, but talk about someone getting the wrong message out of this…
Look, people’s defiance should have been a signal to Northam to be cautious about new gun control measures, that he hadn’t sold them to the people of Virginia as thoroughly as he thought. Instead, he wants to arrest more otherwise law-abiding citizens who are standing up for their civil liberties.
Because that’s not going to heat up the simmering tensions that are threatening to turn into a potential civil war in the Old Dominion State or anything.
Governor Northam probably doesn’t care about that, though. I suspect he wants an armed confrontation. Such an instance could easily be spun into the justification for additional gun control measures throughout the state, especially with a complicit media paving the way.
Northam knows that the only people who will get locked up with these new laws aren’t the criminals currently causing problems in his state and throughout the nation. No, the only people getting arrested will be folks who today are law-abiding citizens who have no interest in breaking the law but even less interest in being disarmed by a government that can’t protect them from the evils of the world.
Northam knows this, but since he also knows those people didn’t vote for him in the first place, he doesn’t give a damn.
