A 19-year-old San Antonio man was shot Saturday night as he attempted to enter a residence on the 1100 block of Dewey Street.
Officer Brandon Reynolds had responded to a disturbance call on Lucero Street when he observed a stolen vehicle out of San Antonio. According to a witness, a man, later identified as Tywon Scates, was in possession of the vehicle but left walking.
As Reynolds was investigating the stolen truck he discovered Scates was involved in a foot pursuit with other officers.
Reynolds arrived at Dewey and Texas Boulevard and made contact with the homeowner who stated he opened his door just as Scates was trying to get into his home.
According to Reynolds' police report, the victim had a firearm in his hand and shot at Scates. The victim explained to the officer how he feared for the safety of his wife and two children inside the home.
Officers located Scates who had been shot in the right ankle.
As Scates fled the victim's property he threw an unknown object at the victim causing the victim to shot towards Scates once more.
Scates was taken to the hospital and medically cleared. He was than taken to the Jim Wells County jail.
Scates was charged with burglary of a habitation with intent to commit other felony, evading arrest and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
As of Tuesday, he remained in custody with a total bond of $40,000.
