A 41-year-old man who allegedly attempted to break into a Corpus Christi apartment died at a hospital after he was shot by the resident.
About 8:21 p.m., police responded to a shooting at an apartment complex in the 6100 block of Wooldridge Road.
A 68-year-old man told police he found a man on his second-story balcony. He was in fear of his life, so he shot the man in the torso area, Corpus Christi police Lt. Michael Pena said.
The man was taken to the Corpus Christi Medical Center-Bay Area, where he later died, Pena said.
It is unknown whether the intruder actually entered the apartment.
Corpus Christi police are investigating the incident, Pena said.
As of 9 a.m. Tuesday, the Nueces County Medical Examiner's Office was working to identify the man.
