Tennessee Self-Defense: Woman carjacked at Kroger; good Samaritan fires shot at suspect :: 01/24/2017

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Memphis Police Department is investigating a carjacking that happened near Kroger in Frayser.

The victim said she was walking to her car around 2:40 p.m. when a suspect walked up behind her, grabbed her, and threw her on the ground. The suspect then got into her car and hit her with the car door as he drove away.

A good Samaritan tried to stop the carjacker by trying to open the car door while the suspect was inside, then firing a shot into the car.

"That was good; that was very good," Brittany Williamson said. "I would have done the same thing. I really would have. I would have done the same thing."

The victim was taken to the hospital in non-critical condition.

"That's really good that somebody jumped in to try to help, but I'm glad that nobody was killed," Natalie Doonan said.

The carjacker is believed to be driving the victim’s 2005 silver Dodge Magnum and wearing a grey hoodie.

No one is in custody at this time.
