A 17-year-old who tried to rob a North Nashville restaurant Thursday is the second teenager to die in a case of self defense in the past ten days, according to Metro police.
Metro Nashville police say Jaylin Cummins died after he tried to rob Knock Out Wings on Jefferson Street around 9:40 p.m.
Five employees were in the restaurant when he entered, wearing all black clothing and his face covered, police said.
He had a gun and demanded money from the cash register. While one of the employees dealt with him, one of her co-workers saw a chance to retrieve a pistol carried by another employee who had his hands up.
The 58-year-old employee opened fire on Cummins.
Cummins, wounded and bleeding, fled the restaurant and got into a white car, police said in a news release.
He was found on the ground outside one of the units at the Terrace Park Apartments on Elm Hill Pike less than 30 minutes later.
Cummins' girlfriend told police she opened the apartment door to find him as the white car drove away.
An investigation continues, and North Precinct detectives are working to identify the person or persons who were inside the white car.
Police say no charges are anticipated for the employee who shot Cummins.
On July 25, Mykal Prime, 19, was shot and killed in the lot of a Marathon gas station on John A. Merritt Boulevard.
Police say a woman shot him in self-defense after he attempted to rob her at gunpoint.
A third teen was shot multiple times Tuesday night after police say he attempted to rob a man at gunpoint at a Bell Road ATM.
Kenneth K. Cathey, 19, was was receiving treatment at Vanderbilt University Medical Center as of Wednesday afternoon. He faces an attempted aggravated robbery charge upon his release.
