A man pursued from Dunlap, Tennessee, into Bledsoe County was shot by a homeowner Saturday after he allegedly charged at the man at the end of the chase on Smith Mountain.
Tyler Shell, whose age and address weren't given, was driving a vehicle reportedly stolen from inside the Dunlap city limits, according to a post on the Dunlap Police Department and Sequatchie County Sheriff's Office Facebook pages.
Dunlap police attempted to get Shell to stop but he continued to Smith Mountain, police said.
The vehicle got stuck and the suspect fled on foot and believed he was possibly armed, police said. Dunlap police and deputies from Sequatchie and Hamilton counties assisted.
"Around 8:15 p.m. CDT, officers received a call from a citizen who lives on [Blue Sewanee Road]," police said in the post. "The homeowner who was outside the residence saw a male who charged at him. The homeowner who was on their property was armed and did fire one round at the suspect. The suspect was hit."
When law enforcement got to the scene, Shell was taken to meet emergency medical officials for treatment.
The scene was processed by Bledsoe County sheriff office due to the scene being in just over the Bledsoe County line, authorities said. Sequatchie County detectives assisted at the scene.
The suspect was taken to Erlanger hospital in Chattanooga with injuries that were not life threatening.
