Police were called to the Giant Eagle at 4:09 p.m. Saturday regarding a disturbance.
According to the investigators, an 85-year-old woman was sitting on a bench in the parking lot waiting for a ride when an unknown man in a blue ski mask grabbed her purse from the cart and ran from the parking lot.
A 26-year-old woman started yelling and ran after the suspect.
A 31-year old man heard the woman yelling and observed the suspect riding on a black bicycle with the purse.
The man chased the suspect on foot. He observed the suspect turn left onto Beacon Street off of Murray Avenue. The man caught up to the suspect and tackled him off of the bicycle.
The man then warned the suspect that he had a firearm and removed it from his holster; however, he did not point the firearm at the suspect and quickly re-holstered it.
The suspect got back onto the bicycle and fled on Murray. The suspect dropped the purse and it was later returned recovered to the victim.
The man who displayed the gun possessed a valid permit to carry a concealed weapon.
Anyone with information regarding this crime is asked to contact 911.
