Pennsylvania Self-Defense: Resident shoots gun at would-be intruder in Murrysville break-in :: 09/22/2016

A Monroeville man escaped injury but not arrest after he allegedly tried to break into a Murrysville home Thursday.

The resident of the Wallace Road home told police that he fired a shot at a man — later identified as Daniel Carmen Dandries, 37 — who was trying to break into his house through a locked first-floor window, but missed the suspect, according to arrest papers.

Dandries is being held in the Westmoreland County Prison on $75,000 bail.

Police were summoned to the house at 11 a.m. Thursday. An officer found Dandries sitting in the back seat of the car with two other people at a nearby intersection, “sweating profusely” and wearing clothing that matched the description the resident gave, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

The resident was brought to the car and identified Dandries as the suspect. Police said he may have been involved in a burglary at the same house last week because he allegedly was in possession of a red folding knife that was reported missing from the home, according to arrest papers.

A passenger in the vehicle told investigators that Dandries took coins from the house last week, police said.

A county detective lifted a palm print from the window that matched Dandries' palm, police said.

He is charged with attempted burglary, burglary and receiving stolen property. A Sept. 27 preliminary hearing is set.
