Pennsylvania Self-Defense: Lower Paxton man shot dog after it attacked neighbor, puppy :: 02/02/2016

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A Dauphin County man was attacked by a dog on Saturday when he was outside with his own puppy, police said.

Another man who lives nearby came to his defense. Now, neighbors are trying to piece it all together.

ABC 27 spoke with a number of people in the Heatherfield neighborhood in Lower Paxton Township on Sunday. A lot of them didn’t see or hear anything until police and an ambulance showed up late in the afternoon the day before, and a lot of them only knew what they heard from other neighbors.

It happened Saturday around 4 p.m.

A man who lives on Lopax Road was outside with his puppy. Police say a pit bull attacked both the puppy and his owner. That’s when another man who lives nearby pulled a gun and shot the pit bull.

A neighbor who didn’t want to talk on camera told ABC 27 she heard two shots and it appeared the pit bull died, although authorities could not confirm that. She also said the attacking dog’s owner had recently adopted the pit bull.

Sunday, a shell casing remained on the driveway where the attack happened and blood soaked into the snow.

Police would not identify the man who was attacked, nor tell us his condition or the condition of his puppy.

A woman at the home Sunday did not want to talk about the incident. Neither did the man who neighbors say shot the pit bull.

A Lower Paxton police sergeant said he couldn’t release any more information or the police report until administrators returned on Monday.
