I think we can all agree that life gets frustrating at times. We all have our ups and downs, and we all have adversity that sometimes we ask for, and sometimes we do not. I’ve heard the age-old sayings that “what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger” or “God only gives us what we can handle.” Those are great to pacify the mind maybe when things seem to be going awry… But what about the things we know we SHOULD be able to change, and it’s just not working?
There are over 1.2 million concealed carry holders in Pennsylvania. We have reportedly over 850,000 hunters here in Pennsylvania. Now, granted, many of us may fit both roles and count in both totals, but even so, why do we lose elections?
Moderates. 41% of all Pennsylvania voters consider themselves to be moderate. Not liberal 25%, not conservative 34%, but moderate. And of those who consider themselves moderate, 71% of them voted for Shapiro in the past election. That means of the 3.5 million voters who consider themselves moderate, over 2.5 million voted for Shapiro. In an election decided by just under 800,000 votes.
What can we learn from this? How about pro-gun values need to be presented to moderates without extremist ideas pushing our values aside? How about we educate our fellow Pennsylvanians about the truth behind violence and mental health, and stop anyone from running for the governor’s office that is out of touch with moderate ideals? Maybe, if we can present the facts, educate those who don’t have a stake in the topic, and spread the word that responsible gun ownership is the solution to crime and not the scourge the anti-gun crowd would have them believe, we can turn those votes into support for pro-gun candidates.
So how do we do that? What can YOU do as a FOAC Institute member or supporter to turn this thing around and help us win at the finish line? Your membership is a great start sure, but what else can be done?
Recently we’ve begun asking Turning Point USA to attend events and help get voters registered. We’ve crisscrossed the Commonwealth speaking wherever we can, to whomever will listen, trying to educate and inform the masses. We must stretch further into marketing ourselves to the gun industry, and reaching our sisters and brothers, motivating them ALL to make a difference.
Two months ago, I asked each of you to suggest one retailer, one industry related business, and one gun club or sportsmen’s organization for us to reach out to, providing one contact if you could, so we could really press the matter across Pennsylvania. I received NINE responses. I thank the nine that took their time to reply and helped start our list. But over 5,000 emails went out, and 9 came back. We can do better. We MUST do better.
The question remains… WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO SUPPORT THE 2ND AMENDMENT? And right now, I might as well be hearing crickets… Where are you all??
