VALE, Ore. - Detectives are investigating after a home invasion suspect was shot and killed by a resident in the home, the Malheur County Sheriff's Office said.
The shooting happened at a home on Washington Street in Vale just before 7:30 a.m. Sunday. Undersheriff Travis Johnson told KTVB that the suspect, who had a gun, kicked in the door and was shot by the homeowner after a short scuffle.
"At this point it's too early to say anything about charges, but it does appear, everything we've seen up to this point, that it was strictly self defense," Johnson said.
The intruder has been identified as 49-year-old Christopher Arnold Rubey of Boise.
With the help of the Idaho State Police , the sheriff's office executed a search at his Boise residence Sunday night. They have not released any details of what was found in the home.
