McMINNVILLE, Ore. (KOIN) — A McMinnville homeowner called police early Sunday morning and said they shot an intruder who was attempting to break in. The person shot was airlifted to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries, according to the McMinnville Police Department.
The intruder attempted to break into a home in the 1300 block of Gilorr Street, just south of Claremont, around 6 a.m. Sunday, McMinnville police told KOIN 6 News.
Ryan Bennett told KOIN 6 News that he talked to the man that had been shot.
“He said he’s dying and that he’s dead,” the witness recalled. “I told him help was on the way.”
The Yamhill County District Attorney’s Office will review the case to determine if the homeowner will face charges. Police said the homeowners are cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
Joe Missildine lives in the area. He said it’s always been a quiet neighborhood.
“And to see something like this happen it’s pretty out of character,” he said. “So it’s still a little bit worrisome with having a young family at home, worrying about this stuff is the last thing you want to think of.”
Officials have not released the name of either the intruder or the homeowner.
Anyone with information is asked to call the McMinnville Police Tip Line at 503.434.2337.
