A man committing what police believe was a string of robberies throughout Dayton and Kettering, Ohio was free to continue his crime spree, hitting several local businesses within a span of about fifteen minutes without any opposition.
That is until he tried to rob the Sundeck Tanning Salon.
Salon owner Bobby Hoblit says his girlfriend Megan was working the counter Friday afternoon when the man entered the establishment and attempted to buy a ring with a handful of change. When the woman opened the cash drawer to complete the purchase, the man let her know he was looking for something else.
“As soon as Megan my girlfriend opened the drawer he said, ‘I don’t want any trouble, just give me all the money,’” Hoblit said. “At that point my girlfriend’s instincts kicked in and we had a pistol underneath and she grabbed the pistol, pointed it right at his face and said, ‘I don’t think you’re going to get that money today.’”
Dayton Police Lt. Joe Wiesman says three robberies committed on Friday were connected, as well as 2 others committed earlier in the week.
“We were kind of following up on some leads,” Wiesman said. “He had committed a robbery at a Circle K back on April 5th as well as Rich’s Smoke Shop.”
Hoblit says although his girlfriend was scared, it wasn’t enough to make her a victim. Instead, it prompted her to protect their business.
“She was really upset,” Hoblit said. “But she’s not going to give up our money. This is our season. We’re a small family business. This is what we live off of and she’s not going to give that up.”
Nicely done, Megan!
