WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Gunshots were fired Thursday afternoon in Winston Salem after a man allegedly crashed a stolen vehicle.
Winston-Salem police said Bernard Antonio Downing was driving a vehicle at about 4 p.m. that had been stolen from the 400 block of N. Main Street.
As he was driving the car south on U.S. Highway 52, police said Downing collided with another vehicle.
Downing continued to drive to the 300 block of Dixie Broadway where he collided with a parked car before turning around and speeding toward the man who had been driving the car he initially hit. The man fired a single round from his personal firearm, striking the car Downing was operating.
Downing collided with the man’s vehicle once more before driving from the area.
Officers found the stolen car and arrested Downing at 2022 S. Broad Street without incident.
Officers discovered that Downing had an outstanding arrest warrant for violation of probation from a previous burglary charge in Raleigh.
Downing is being held without bail.
No one was injured in the ordeal.
