North Carolina Self-Defense: Burglary suspect shot multiple times :: 08/01/2017

FAIRMONT — A woman defended her home from a burglar by shooting the man multiple times with a .40 caliber handgun, according to the Fairmont police chief.

The shooting victim turned out to be her ex-boyfriend.

Fairmont police were called about 2:19 a.m. Tuesday to 1149 Industrial Drive about a man being shot, Police Chief Jon Edwards said Thursday, and they found a man lying in the yard.

Rodney Thompson, 40, was taken to a local hospital for treatment for gunshot wounds in the leg and abdomen, Edwards said. His condition was not available Thursday afternoon.

Thompson will be charged with first-degree burglary, attempted breaking and entering and attempted larceny of a motor vehicle, Edwards said. Officers had responded earlier in the night to the same residence for an attempted breaking and entering to a motor vehicle.

An investigation revealed Thompson had broken into the home of his ex-girlfriend, 32-year-old Lacora Hill, Edwards said. As he came through the home’s back door, Hill fired multiple shots. Hill’s two small children were in the home at the time of the incident.

Hill will not be charged in regard to the shooting, Edwards said.
