Whe a Long Island homeowner walked into a robbery as it was unfolding inside his home, he confronted the suspects and grabbed a semi-automatic rifle to shoot after the robbers as they fled the home, police say.

One of the suspects in a New Cassel home invasion and burglary

The homeowner wasn't there when the two robbers knocked on the door in New Cassel, then showed guns and forced their way inside Monday morning, according to police.

Two women, a man and three children were inside, and the robbers forced them to a second-story bedroom and demanded cash, police said.

A short time later, the homeowner returned and was confronted by the robbers as he reached the second floor. One of the suspects fired a shot that lodged into the wall, and both suspects ran away with cash and jewelry.

The homeowner went to get a semi-automatic rifle and fired a shot after running out of the home.

No one was hurt.

One of the suspects is described as 6 feet tall (sketch above), and the other was about 5 feet tall and wearing a ski mask.

Anyone with information is asked to contact 800-244-TIPS.
