A man stopped into the Walmart at San Mateo and Zuni during his commute to work shortly before 4 p.m. on Friday. As he stopped in the store parking lot, he was approached by a man police later identified as 33-year-old Kenneth Harrelson.
When Harrelson began talking to him, the man rolled down his window, briefly speaking with him before Harrelson pulled a knife and forced his way into the man’s vehicle.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Metropolitan Court, the man said Harrelson held the knife to his neck as he attempted to climb into the driver’s seat.
Fearing for his life, the man exited his vehicle and dropped his wallet. As Harrelson stepped out of the vehicle and reached for the wallet, the man retrieved his firearm from his backpack for self defense and shot Harrelson.
Police said the man fired at Harrelson, only stopping when he was sure Harrelson was hit.
Harrelson fled the Walmart parking lot on foot, but ended up at a local hospital seeking treatment for his gunshot wounds. Upon his release, police booked him into the Metropolitan Detention Center on aggravated burglary, aggravated assault and conspiracy charges.
Another win for armed America!
