One person was fatally shot Thursday morning in what Las Vegas police are calling a robbery-home invasion in the central valley.
Homicide detectives are investigating the shooting at Arcadia Palms Apartments, 3655 E. Sahara Ave., near Boulder Highway, according to Metropolitan Police Department.
Police received a call about 1 a.m. from a man in his mid-20s who said he shot another man who broke into his apartment, Lt. Dan McGrath said. He told Metro there was a loud “bang, bang, bang” at the door before the man forced his way in, McGrath said.
McGrath said the resident then shot and killed the intruder.
When officers arrived, the resident was outside the apartment with a friend. The resident had a gun. Police asked him to put it down, which he did, setting it on a curb.
The investigation was in its early stages, but McGrath said police were characterizing the incident as a robbery-home invasion. He said the front door appeared to show signs of forced entry.
Homicide investigators determined that the intruder had a handgun and forced open the front door, according to a Metro new release Thursday morning.
It was not immediately clear whether the shooter and intruder knew each other.
“You have to ask, ‘Why that apartment?’” McGrath said.
The Clark County coroner’s office will identify the person who was killed once relatives have been notified.
This is the 56th homicide investigated in Clark County and the 46th investigated by Metro this year.
