Michigan Self-Defense: Police - Man shoots way out of attempted carjacking :: 07/27/2016

A 37-year-old man is unhurt after shooting his way out of an attempted carjacking on Detroit’s west side late Monday night, police said.

The man was approached by two male suspects in a dark-colored Chevy Impala, said Officer Nicole Kirkwood of the Detroit Police Department. One of the men was armed.

When the Impala pulled up to the man on the 16800 block of Rutherford, the armed man allegedly pulled out his gun and told the victim to exit his vehicle, Kirkwood said.

The victim complied, but had a gun of his own. The alleged victim, who Kirkwood said has a concealed pistol license, and the other man exchanged gunfire, and the suspect took a gunshot wound to the body. He got back in the Impala and was taken to an area hospital.

That’s where police found him minutes later and arrested the 28-year-old male about midnight, Kirkwood said.

Police did not immediately know what kind of car the victim was driving.
