Michigan Self-Defense: CPL holder shot would-be mugger, Detroit police say :: 01/07/2016

DETROIT, MI -- Detroit police haven't entirely sorted out the details, but preliminary findings indicate a 28-year-old man permitted to carry a concealed firearm exchanged gunfire with and critically injured his 21-year-old would-be mugger.

Each man said he was the victim and the other tried to rob him.

Detroit police are identifying the 21-year-old as the suspected robber. They say he suffered a single gunshot wound.

After shooting the 21-year-old, the CPL holder went immediately to a nearby Detroit Police precinct headquarters.

"The 21-year-old announced there was a hold-up and there was an exchange of gunfire between them," Detroit Police Officer Shonda Williams tells MLive. The 28-year-old was uninjured.

She said the 21-year-old was critically injured and alive as of Wednesday afternoon. It's unclear if he is license to carry a concealed weapon or had a legal gun.

Williams said charges weren't immediately known.
