A 62-year-old man fatally shot an intruder who broke into his Northeast Baltimore apartment and tried to rob him at knifepoint, Baltimore Police said.
Officers were called to the 6800 block of Sturbridge Drive at about 9 p.m. Thursday in the Hamilton Hills neighborhood, near the Baltimore County line, where a resident said an intruder forced his way into his apartment.
The resident told police the intruder had a knife and demanded money, and he was able to get to a firearm and shot once.
The identity of the victim was not immediately available pending notification of relatives, but police said he was 28 years old.
Police said the shooting is being investigating as a case of self-defense, and has been referred to the State’s Attorney’s Office.
In a separate incident, police said a 32-year-old man was shot in the ankle at about 11 p.m. in the 500 block of E. 38th St. in Waverly. Police said the victim was shot during an altercation with another male.
