A Shreveport man dies after he was shot by a woman he allegedly attacked outside of her apartment.
Police say 37-year-old Leeartavious Barrett died from his injuries on Wednesday at University Health.
The shooting happened shortly after 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Country Club Marina Apartments in the 4300 block of Lakeshore Dr.
When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Barrett suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.
After Barrett was transported to the hospital detectives found a handgun inside his clothing.
Officers also detained a woman who is accused of shooting Barrett after he violently attacked her as she was leaving her apartment Tuesday morning. Investigators say Barrett had been loitering around the breezeway near the victim’s apartment when the attack occurred.
It was determined that the victim was struck repeatedly in the face and head and was in the process of being strangled around the neck when she managed to grab a small caliber handgun she was carrying and shot Barrett.
The woman was taken to Shreveport Police headquarters where she was interviewed by authorities regarding the incident. After questioning, the woman was released.
While no charges have been filed, the case will be submitted to officials at the Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office for further review.
