Kentucky Self-Defense: Father holds intruder at gunpoint until help arrives :: 07/02/2017

A Bloomfield resident, 18-year-old Garrett Harlan Inghram, has been arrested and charged in connection with a burglary early Saturday morning at 112 Goodloe Ave.

According to a press release from Sgt. Mike Clark of the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a call received at 4:40 a.m. of a burglary in progress at the home of Chris and Heather Stevens.

Heather Stevens told officers the intruder had entered the home through their juvenile daughter’s bedroom window. The couple discovered him when they heard their dog barking, and Chris Stevens, using a firearm, detained him until Deputies A.J. Lewis and Brandon Bryan arrived.

The two officers were able to identify the subject and learn that he had entered the room with the intention of committing a crime.

The couple’s daughter was not at home at the time.

Chris Stevens posted this on Facebook Saturday: “This morning at about 4:40 a.m. I got woke up to my wife screaming and my dog barking. An 18-year-old boy had broke into my house and was in my daughter’s room. She was not home, thank God! He met up with my pistol pretty fast, and I held him at gunpoint till the police got here ... Just wanted to warn people in the Bloomfield area keep a close eye out.”

Inghram was arrested and lodged in the Nelson County Jail on charges of second-degree burglary, possession of burglar’s tools and failure to notify the state Transportation Cabinet of an address change.

Lewis is the lead investigator in the case.
