(BLOOMINGTON) - A Spencer man was arrested Thursday after he left the scene of an accident, vandalized a car and was then apprehended by the owner of a pickup truck he was attempting to steal.
Bloomington Police arrested 27-year-old Robert D. Collins III after they arrived at an apartment complex parking lot and found Collins being held at gunpoint after he allegedly broke into a truck, triggered the alarm system and got caught sitting in the driver's seat.
Police say Collins III is also facing charges of leaving the scene of an accident, after he caused an accident at 5:30 a.m. at the intersection of South Curry Pike and West Third Street. Witnesses told police Collins ran a red light causing the accident and then ran from his van
An hour later, a woman called police to report that a man identified as Collins vandalized her car after she refused to let him inside her apartment on Basswood Drive.
Then at 10:30 a.m., police were called back to Basswood drive to find Collins sitting in the driver's seat of a truck and being held at gunpoint by the truck's owner.
Police are also investigating to see if Collins was involved in an incident where a woman reported a man got into her car in the 3800 block of West Third Street Thursday morning.
Collins was arrested and is facing a charge of leaving the scene of an accident and two counts of criminal mischief.
