INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Officials are investigating a fatal shooting early Sunday morning as a self-defense case.
It happened in the 3000 block of Bavarian Drive West around 3:30 a.m. Sunday.
According to police, when officers arrived, they found a 20-year-old man with gunshot wounds. They say the shooter was also on scene, and told police he shot the man after he attempted to rob him.
“I guess it was a good idea for them to have protection, because the gates around here are always open,” said Chan Brown, a resident of the Bavarian Village Apartments.
Brown said it is typically a pretty quiet area, but he and his family are considering moving.
“This is not really something you want to hear no matter where you live,” said Jenae Sutton, another resident.
According to online police reports, since Jan. 1, 2017, there has been one other report of robbery and four reports of burglary at the apartment complex.
“The doors are locked, the patio is locked, the windows are closed we are not active or anything out here just because of that,” said Sutton.
Some say they’re now hoping for extra security. There are already cameras at the entrance of the complex, but they hope management puts the gates in front of the complex to use.
“Hopefully they will close them around this time now that this happened,” said Brown.
Police are not releasing the names of those involved in this incident.
The alleged shooter has not been arrested. Police say he is cooperating with the investigation.
