INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Indianapolis Metropolitan police believe two people who arrived at an Indianapolis hospital with gunshot wounds Friday morning were involved in a robbery.
Dispatchers said both people showed up at Community Hospital East located at 1500 N. Ritter Ave. around 11:20 a.m.
According to IMPD, someone inside their home on South Sherman heard a knock at the door and didn't answer. Three people then tried kicking in the door. The homeowner shot at them, police said.
"If you're in the business of committing crimes you may choose that house where the homeowner is armed behind that door. A homeowner in certain incidents has the right to defend their castle in the state of Indiana," explains Major Richard Riddle, with IMPD.
Two of the suspects went to Community East; one was in critical condition and the other was stable. The third suspect was still at large.
Police said the homeowner was cooperating with the investigation.
