A female victim wrestled with a man for a weapon and shot him when he tried to rob her Saturday morning on the South Side in the Gresham neighborhood, Chicago police said.
About 6:15 a.m., a 23-year-old man approached a victim in the 8000 block of South Ashland Avenue, pulled out a gun and attempted to rob her. The female victim, whose age was not available, refused to hand over her items and a struggle ensued, police said.
The victim was able to wrestle the gun away and shot the man in his hand. The man fled the scene but was caught a short time later by police.
The would-be-robber was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was listed in good condition, police said.
The victim was not hurt during the incident, and charges were pending against the man.
