A man shot a stray dog in self-defense Tuesday in Scottsdale on the Southwest Side.
Officers were called at 1 p.m. for a call of gunfire in the 7800 block of South Tripp Avenue, Chicago police said.
A man told officers that he was charged at by a pit bull and shot it twice in self-defense, police said.
Police called Animal Care and Control, which treated the stray dog for graze wounds and swelling, a spokesperson for city hall said. The dog is expected to live.
Animal control is working to reunite the dog with its owner, the spokesperson said.
Police said the man who shot the dog was not charged because he had valid firearm and concealed carry cards.
