KEWANEE (GHMI) — A Kewanee man died of a gunshot wound after he reportedly kicked in the door of a home Sunday afternoon.
Wyatt J. Scott, 41, died from a single gunshot wound, according to a news release from the Henry-Mercer Investigative Task Force.
The news release said Michael T. Evans, 44, called 911 to report that he shot Scott.
According to a news release from Police Chief Jim Dison, Evans said he shot Scott in self-defense after Scott kicked in the door to his home on Dwight Street.
"The homeowner is cooperating with the investigation and no arrests have been made," Dison said Sunday night.
Dison called in the Henry-Mercer Investigative Task Force to investigate the shooting. The task force is composed of detectives from the Henry County Sheriff's Office, the Mercer County Sheriff's Officer, Illinois State Police and police departments from Kewanee, Geneseo, Colona and Aledo.
Dison also said Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services processed the scene of the shooting.
