Florida Self-Defense: Suspected Intruder Identified in Freeport Home Invasion :: 01/09/2017

Walton County Sheriffs deputies are investigating a home invasion that left one man dead in Freeport.

That man has been identified as suspected intruder 26-year-old Sedrick Williams.

"The Sheriff's Office received a call in reference to an altercation and part of the altercation led to the death of a Sedrick Williams, of Georgia," said Lt. Angie Hogeyboom.

Walton County Sheriff's deputies said it started when the couple living in the home on Loop Circle heard their dogs barking outside the front door.

Authorities said one of the residents got up to answer the door, and that's when Williams attacked him with a bottle.

This lead to an altercation, and Williams was then stabbed.

"The homeowner, whenever he answered the door he did have a knife on him because he was under the impression that somebody was breaking into the house," said Hogeyboom.

Walton County Sheriff's deputies said they were called to the scene where they found Williams dead in front of the home.

Hogeyboom said the home invasion left neighbors in shock.

"Freeport is a small community and most people know everybody in the area so it definitely shakes them to the core when something like this happens," said Hogeyboom.

Hogeyboom said this may be a case of self defense.

"It's still under investigation. We have to look into all aspects. It's leaning towards that but right now we're actively investigating all aspects," said Hogeyboom.

The Medical Examiner's Office, and First Judicial Circuit will determine the exact cause of Williams' death.

Walton County Sheriff's deputies have identified the suspected intruder in Saturday's deadly home invasion as Sedrick Marshawn Williams, 26, of Georgia.

He was stabbed by one of the residents living at the home on Loop Circle in Freeport, according to deputies.

Investigators responded to a call early Saturday morning of the reported home invasion.

The encounter started with dogs barking, alerting two residents inside the home that there was someone at the front door. Deputies said when one of the residents opened the door, Williams attacked him with a bottle while trying to enter the home.

The Medical Examiner's Office, First Judicial Circuit will determine the exact cause of death in the case.

Walton County Sheriff's deputies are still investigating.
