A 21-year-old Santa Rosa County man was shot by his father Sunday after a sword attack. Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the 9200 block of Quail Roost Drive in Navarre around 12 p.m.
The victim told deputies that he shot William McClanahan-Spenler with a shotgun in self defense after the suspect attacked him with a sword.
The sheriff's office said this is not the agency's first encounter with a sword attack.
"A year ago one of our deputies was attacked with a sword right around that same area," Sgt. Rich Aloy told Channel 3 News. "It's unusual, it's not something you come across everyday, being attacked by a sword," said Sgt. Aloy.
McClanahan-Spenler was taken to a hospital and released around 4 p.m. Sunday.
Detectives arrested the suspect for aggravated assault with a weapon. He was booked into the Santa Rosa County Jail without bond.
