A 21-year-old man who was wounded Tuesday in a shootout near Altamonte Springs has died, the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.
Deputies were called to Jackson and Pine streets about 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, arriving to find Altamonte Springs resident Treyvis Gooch wounded inside a vehicle, the Sheriff’s Office said.
He had been shot in the head, the agency reported.
Gooch was taken to a local hospital and was pronounced dead Tuesday afternoon, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Authorities said the man who fatally wounded Gooch is cooperating with the investigation and has told detectives he killed Gooch in self-defense — after he was fired upon first.
The man’s name has not been released. Authorities said Tuesday the two men know each other and the shooting was not a random incident. Both are valid conceal-carry permit holders.
“Investigators are doing additional interviews and consulting with the State Attorney’s Office,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 407-665-6650 or Crimeline at 800-423-8477.
The shooting Tuesday — and a fleeing car that authorities said was unrelated — prompted a sizable police response in the unincorporated area between Altamonte Springs and Casselberry.
