Democrats' analgesic gun rights rhetoric, unmasked :: 10/01/2019

From the 2012 Democratic Party Platform:

“We recognize that the individual right to bear arms is an important part of the American tradition, and…will preserve Americans' Second Amendment right to own and use firearms. We believe that the right to own firearms is subject to reasonable regulation. We understand the terrible consequences of gun violence; it serves as a reminder that life is fragile, and our time here is limited and precious. We believe in an honest, open national conversation about firearms. We can focus on effective enforcement of existing laws, especially strengthening our background check system, and we can work together to enact commonsense improvements — like reinstating the assault weapons ban…so that guns do not fall into the hands of those irresponsible, law-breaking few.” (As if that were possible…)

But, during the third Democratic candidate debate, Robert Francis O’Rourke forgot their platform’s analgesic rhetoric, let the party’s mask slip and served notice to American voters that Democrats would confiscate legal firearms in direct violation of America’s Bill of Rights. O’Rourke’s call to confiscate “assault weapons,” a proposal already endorsed by other leading Democrats, was publicly revealed.

From CNN: "’Hell, yes, we're going to take your AR-15…,’ O'Rourke said… ‘We're not going to allow it to be used against our fellow Americans...’ To accomplish this, O'Rourke has proposed a mandatory confiscation of these guns whereby individuals would be compensated for their firearms. Beyond the thorny politics of this proposal, it raises clear legal and logistical questions, including whether a president has the authority to confiscate people's guns.”

Presidents do not have that authority. Then, forgetting who did the killing at Kent State, O’Rourke argued in an appearance there that only the government can be trusted with firearms. O’Rourke’s ignorance includes what an “assault weapon” actually is — “scary-looking” is not a legal standard – and his fuzzy notion that federal agents might go door-to-door to confiscate millions of legal firearms is constitutionally, politically and practically preposterous.

But, Democrats are committed authoritarians. Some Democrats would rather categorize law-abiding citizens as “criminals,” and seize legal weapons than take on real criminals. In California, Democrats declared the National Rifle Association a “terrorist organization,” simply because it opposes them politically, and party operatives threatened governmental retaliation against companies doing business with the NRA.

The Democrats’ hypocrisy is stunning.

In August, singer and self-appointed gun “activist” Bette Midler tweeted: “Hey, hey #NRA! HOW MANY LIVES DID YOU TAKE TODAY??” to which Brian Cates responded, “Zero. Now do Planned Parenthood.”

Democrats won’t, because their militant feminist component makes abortion advocacy compulsory. Not only does the party defend an elective procedure that takes more than 600,000 innocent lives annually, 44 Democratic senators blocked the “Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act” that would have mandated medical care for infants who survive botched abortions. Americans may disagree about abortion generally, but denying care for abortion survivors is clearly infanticide.

Contrasting gun control with their commitment to abortion, one might logically assume that Democrats’ determination to confiscate firearms isn’t really about protecting life.
