A residential robber is on the run, after being shot with a BB gun by a female, home alone and acting in self defense.
According to a report from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, it was nearly 11 p.m. Sunday night when Puddin’, a heeler, began to bark. The resident of a home in the 900 block of Hillcrest Drive in Crestline saw a dark object pass by the lights outside her front door.
In fear, she grabbed her gas-powered BB gun from her bedroom. When she walked back into the living room, she noticed that the top lock on her front door was being opened from the outside.
She approached the front door and an unknown suspect, wearing a black ski mask and black gloves, shoved the door inward, striking the victim in the face, which made her dizzy.
The report described how the suspect pushed a large hunting knife through the opening and told the victim not to move, and to open the door because he had a knife.
The victim said she discharged at least four rounds at the suspect. One round hit him in the cheek of his face, and one or more other rounds hit him in the torso.
The suspect screamed and backed away. That allowed the victim to slam the door shut and lock it. She saw the male run up her stairs and away from her residence in an unknown direction.
When the victim was able to call 9-1-1, she said she needed medical attention. She had a hard time talking and said she felt like she was passing out. She persisted nonetheless, providing information to the dispatcher.
Because the male subject was wearing a black ski mask, she couldn’t see any of his hair, and couldn’t see any skin other than around his eyes.
In addition to the ski mask, the victim was able to see that her assailant was wearing a black hoodie, blue jeans and Converse shoes. He had a large build, she said, adding that he was a little overweight. He smelled like beer.
The unknown male had a deep voice and no particular accent. But he sounded funny, she said, “like he was getting sober, like the morning after when you try to talk and it sounds funny.” His voice was not familiar to her, the victim said, but he sounded “older,” perhaps between 30 and 50 years old.
The victim described her locks and keys, after which she reported that she was on the floor, dizzy and seeing spots.
Deputies responded and reported that an area check was negative for any suspects. Medical services arrived. As Oct. 28 transitioned into Oct. 29, at around midnight the victim was transported to St. Bernardine Medical Center in San Bernardino per her request.
