Two people are dead in a robbery gone wrong. One of the people slain was a teenage boy, according to Visalia police.
Police are still gathering clues and tracking down leads, but they did shed some light Monday on what happened during Sunday night's deadly shooting.
Around 11 p.m., officers were called to the EZ Mart Liquor Store on Walnut Avenue and Giddings Street for a report of a shooting at the shopping center.
When officers arrived, they found a 16-year-old-boy in the parking lot who had been shot. The boy was rushed to Kaweah Health Medical Center, where he died.
A 20-year-old clerk was shot and killed inside the store, officers said.
Violent Crimes detectives were called to the small business to start their investigation.
Detectives learned that the 16-year-old boy tried to rob the store. The store clerk and the teenager exchanged gunfire and shot at each other multiple times, according to police.
The names of the people killed were not released by detectives.
Detectives are asking for the public’s help for information on this case. It's possible others were involved.
