SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — Authorities said a San Bernardino homeowner shot and wounded a man he said entered his residence without permission and refused to exit.
Saturday morning, just before 8:15, a man in his late 60s told San Bernardino police that he went into his backyard for several minutes. The homeowner said when he went back inside, he found a man standing in his living room.
The home is located in the 1400 block of Sheridan Road.
The suspect, now identified as a 37-year-old transient named Timothy Mackay, was allegedly holding a large hunting knife.
The homeowner told police he told Mackay to leave his premises several times but he refused. The homeowner said Mackay continued to wave the knife around — he retrieved a handgun and shot Mackay once in the abdomen.
The resident called 911.
Arriving officers located Mackay still armed with the knife.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Officials said he will face appropriate charges once he has been treated.
