An elderly woman fired a “warning shot” after a man broke into her home, and held the suspect at gunpoint before deputies were able to take him into custody, officials said.
On Thursday around 2 p.m., deputies received reports of a possible burglary call on the 15000 block of Baker Canyon Road in Canyon Country, said Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
“The elderly female victim called 9-1-1 and said the male adult was knocking and trying to get into her house,” Miller said. “She did not know who he was.”
Moments later, the burglary suspect made entry into her home, according to Miller.
“She locked herself in a room, (and) the suspect allegedly forced entry into the room,” Miller said.
The victim had a firearm, and told the suspect to leave, according to Miller.
After the suspect exited the house, the woman fired one shot in the air and told the suspect to get on the ground, according to Sheriff’s officials.
“He was on the ground when deputies arrived,” Miller said.
Collin Keoshian, 29, from Valencia, was arrested on felony burglary charges, Miller added.
No injuries were reported, according to Sheriff’s officials.
Keoshian was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s jail with bail set at $50,000, according to arrest records.
