Police are releasing more details from a Saturday night shooting involving a female officer.
According to the Conway Police Department, Little Rock Police Officer Lora Montano, 24, grabbed her gun Saturday night after waking up to her dog barking at an intruder kicking in her door. She ventured out of her bedroom and soon came face to face with a black man dressed in all black standing in her home. She fired her weapon and left the residence to call for help.
Conway police have identified the intruder as 25-year-old Hershel Brigance. Brigance was arrested after he sought treatment for a gunshot wound at Conway Regional Hospital. He told police he was shot in an armed robbery in Little Rock, but police quickly determined he was the intruder who had broken into Officer Montano’s residence.
Brigance has been charged with residential burglary and is currently being held without bond at the Faulkner County jail.
As is the standard procedure for officers involved in shootings, Officer Montano will remain on paid administrative leave until a criminal investigation by the Conway police is completed and reviewed.
Yet another great example of how guns can (and frequently do) save lives!
