A man fatally shot in Montgomery on Sunday was killed in self-defense, investigators said Monday.
The Montgomery Police Department is conducting a death investigation into the fatal shooting and have yet to identify the victim, described as an adult male.
Authorities responded to the 1000 block of West South Boulevard at about 1 a.m. on Sunday in reference to a subject shot, where they learned the man had been transported by private vehicle to Jackson Hospital.
"Further investigation indicates that the deceased subject had attempted to intervene in a physical altercation between two other adult males by shooting at one of them," MPD Capt. Regina Duckett said in an emailed statement. "That adult male returned fire in self-defense, fatally striking the deceased. The two males in the initial altercation were uninjured."
The location of where police responded is near West South Boulevard's intersection with Interstate 65.
